Making Choice, Convenience and Safety a Part of the Flu Vaccine Distribution Process |

During the flu vaccination distribution process, vaccine orders often trickle in over a period of several months, typically beginning in late summer and completing as late as November or early December. From a practical standpoint, this can make it very difficult for healthcare providers to plan flu clinics. The flu vaccine might arrive in time for their flu clinics; or it might not. If too little vaccine arrives they may end up with frustrated patients; too much vaccine means excess inventory and profit losses. In 2006, FFF Enterprises, the nation’s largest distributor of flu vaccine, launched an innovative program called MyFluVaccine (www.MyFluVaccine.com), in an effort to bring choice, convenience and safety into the distribution process. Unlike the traditional flu vaccine delivery system, MyFluVaccine gives healthcare providers the convenience of choosing the date they wish to receive their flu vaccine, along with the assurance that they are ordering their vaccine from a distributor with a flawless safety track record. An industry leader in supply chain safety, FFF has celebrated 21 counterfeit-free years within the biopharmaceuticals marketplace. The CDC website notes that most manufacturers and distributors attempt to complete at least a portion of requested influenza vaccine distribution early in the season, so that clinics can begin vaccinating high-risk patients (people 50 years of age and older or those with chronic health conditions) and their household contacts. But until recently, influenza vaccine purchasers have not had the choice and convenience of selecting delivery dates for their influenza vaccine. “Our customers told us that they would often lose patients to whatever facility received its vaccine first,” says Chris Ground, senior vice president, FFF Enterprises. “MyFluVaccine gives these providers the ability to select specific delivery dates for their vaccine, which allows them to plan vaccination clinics with confidence. It’s revolutionized the industry.” In addition to its easy ordering portal, the MyFluVaccine website provides news, updates, resources and clinic planning tools. There are special informative sections for consumers and employer groups, as well as providers. FFF has also produced a “Flu Vaccine Myths & Facts” brochure that is downloadable as a PDF from the website, or as a printed booklet that healthcare providers can order for their patients. With the 2010-2011 flu vaccine ordering season underway, healthcare providers are encouraged to place their vaccine orders now. |
